Axial aberration is something that you usually wont like when you find it: f.e. here (snapshot at 100%):<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-562\" title=\"bildschirmfoto-2011-03-01-um-214429\" src=\"http:\/\/soerenhese.de\/sailpower-blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/03\/bildschirmfoto-2011-03-01-um-214429.png\" alt=\"bildschirmfoto-2011-03-01-um-214429\" width=\"510\" height=\"428\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.sailpower.de\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/03\/bildschirmfoto-2011-03-01-um-214429.png 510w, https:\/\/www.sailpower.de\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/03\/bildschirmfoto-2011-03-01-um-214429-300x251.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 510px) 100vw, 510px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>This color fringing is typical for most f1.4 lenses (@f1.4) and its very hard to correct it with digital image processing (in opposite to lateral color aberration). Lenses that do not (or to a reduced degree) exhibit this kind of aberration are usually APO corrected lenses or lenses that use ED elements. These lenses are very expensive or just hard to get on the used market (f.e. the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.voigtlaender.de\/cms\/voigtlaender\/voigtlaender_cms.nsf\/id\/pa_asan6lwmhj.html\">Voigtl\u00e4nder APO Lanthar 125 mm f2.5<\/a> AIS-type).<\/p>\n<p>Somewhat unnoticed: also the f<a href=\"http:\/\/nikonimglib.com\/nvnx\/index_en_int.html#os-macintosh\" target=\"_blank\">ree ViewNX software <\/a>from Nikon in its most recent version (2.1.1) can correct this color fringing. Its under &#8220;adjustments&#8221; and the shot from above is improved remarkably &#8211; nearly\u00a0 axial color free (activate &#8220;auto&#8221; and move the slider to 100%):<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-563\" title=\"bildschirmfoto-2011-03-01-um-220306\" src=\"http:\/\/soerenhese.de\/sailpower-blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/03\/bildschirmfoto-2011-03-01-um-220306.png\" alt=\"bildschirmfoto-2011-03-01-um-220306\" width=\"510\" height=\"412\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.sailpower.de\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/03\/bildschirmfoto-2011-03-01-um-220306.png 510w, https:\/\/www.sailpower.de\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/03\/bildschirmfoto-2011-03-01-um-220306-300x242.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 510px) 100vw, 510px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Btw: you might have noticed that this shot is a bit back focused &#8211; the AF target on the left is not sharp. And thats usually why I buy optics either with <a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.de\/Nikon-AF-S-Nikkor-50mm-Objektiv\/dp\/B001GCVA0U\/ref=pd_rhf_p_t_2\">Amazon<\/a> or <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bhphotovideo.com\/c\/product\/585343-USA\/Nikon_2180_AF_S_Nikkor_50mm_f_1_4G.html\">B&amp;H<\/a>. The return policy is important. This Nikkor AFS 50 mm f1.4G went back to Amazon the next day.
